Toddlers & Young Children

Early Childhood Music
Newborn—age 2. Secure on the lap of parents or caregivers, the child experiences the joy of creating music through song and rhythm band instruments.

Music & Motion
Ages 2—3. Along with parent or caregiver, the child explores basic elements of movement (galloping, jumping and twirling) to a variety of classical and contemporary music pieces.

Family Music & Motion
Newborn—age 5. Same as Music & Motion, but delivered for the convenience of parents or caregivers who have multiple children/siblings involved in the class.

Artsfusion I
Ages 2 1/2—5. Along with parent or caregiver, the child is introduced to famous paintings which serve as inspiration for the child to express stories through movement and music. Artsfusion develops a child’s interpretive skills while emphasizing artistic expression.

Artsfusion II
Ages 3 1/2—5. Same as Artsfusion I, but the child explores more independent expression, guided by the instructor, while parents or caregivers observe from the studio lobby.

Introduction to Ballet
Introductory class perfect for home-schoolers and pre-schoolers who are not quite ready for a formal ballet class, but want to have a fun ballet experience that introduces them to concepts of classical dance.

Children & Youth

Pre-Ballet I
Ages 5—6. Children are introduced to the preliminaries of ballet. Exercises are given to encourage physical and spatial awareness, coordination and musicality. Students learn simple classroom etiquette and social skills in a creative, fun and confidence-building environment.

Pre-Ballet II
Ages 6—7. Skills and concepts learned in Pre-Ballet I are expanded, and simple enchainements (dances) are learned. Creativity and self expression are encouraged through ballet mime, while muscular control, balance and coordination increase.

Ballet I
Ages 7—11. Children begin following a syllabus in ballet technique while expanding physical, musical and creative ideas learned in Pre-Ballet. Students begin to work at the barre, developing their focus and posture. Young students thrive in a safe, structured environment infused with faster paced fun and confidence-building exercises.

Pre-Professional Division

Ballet II
Students with a few years of experience advance to multiple classes per week. Basics are reviewed with an emphasis on technique. New steps are learned while enhancements increase in complexity.

Ballet III
Students attend a number of ballet classes per week. Pointe work begins for girls and basic partnering for boys. Many students at this level become apprentices in the Champaign Urbana Ballet.

Ballet IV
students attend class daily and work toward proficiency in their technique, pointe work, and partnering skills. Corps de ballet work and stagecraft gain significance as many studetns at this level are accepted into the corps of Champaign Urbana Ballet.

Ballet V
Committed young men and women maintain an intense and rewarding schedule in preparation for upcoming performances and potential professional careers. Dancers work for mastery of technique, speed, fluidity, and artistry. Many of these students have soloist or principal opportunities with Champaign Urbana Ballet.

Adult Division

Barre
Beginners and experienced students practice classic barre exercises in a comfortable environment with others who share their goal. Builds a strong foundation of ballet technique with lifelong benefits for adults, teens, pilates, yoga and fitness enthusiasts with a passion to dance.

Center
Students transition from barre to center combinations with adagio, waltz steps, introduction to turns, and simple jumps. Intermediate and advanced students are given more complex variations while basic combinations are prescribed for beginners in a well-paced class.
